Why yes, I did fix it!

On Dawn's suggestion (she's damn good sometimes), I broke open the case of the USB disk to discover a Seagate Barracuda 7200 inside. So, I put it into the kid's Windoze box and ran Seatools for Windows on it, which found no errors.

Then I opened up my computer and stuck it in there, and ran:

# vgcfgrestore -v -f /etc/lvm/archive/vg00_00014.vg vg00

# vgscan

# vgchange -ay

# reiserfsck /dev/vg00/lvol2

# mount -t reiserfs /dev/vg00/lvol2 /home/media/music

And there it was! Turns out it was the case and the USB adapter, not the drive itself. I am SO relieved.

Note: if you're not a Linux admin, and are unfamiliar with LVM, DO NOT run these commands on your system; you can break things very badly if you don't know what you're doing.

It simply won't work for you Windows people.

Also, Jerry's birthday is being celebrated this weekend, with his friends coming over and playing video games and goign to the skating rink and generally raising hell.

We got him a bass and an amp. That will mean we have three bass players in the family: Jake, Lissa, and Jerry. Bethany's getting guitar lessons this summer, and Emily and I may do so as well. Dawn already plays cello, viola, and violin, though shee needs an instrument.

All we need now is a drummer.

Oh, and there are new pictures in the gallery.
